Silang, Cavite-Philippine National Police Academy, under the leadership of PMGEN SAMUEL C NACION, marked the beginning of the festive season with the ceremonial lighting of the giant star. Presided over by the Chief of the Philippine National Police, PGEN BENJAMIN C ACORDA JR. The event took place at the PNPA Cadet Square, Camp General Mariano N Castaneda, Silang, Cavite, on November 29, 2023 at about 7:00 PM.

The Lightning of Giant Star has been an integral part of the PNPA cadet heritage for three decades, symbolizing a commitment to honor the yuletide season and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. The PNPA Class 1992 created the first giant star using indigenous materials. In an endeavor to establish a new standard in PNPA, it was metalized through the collaboration of PNPA Class 1998 and 1999. It eventually evolved into a yearly custom to observe the initial day of December. It was previously situated adjacent to the former barracks before being moved to the PNPA Cadet Square. As the plebes prepare to spend the impending Yuletide season away from home, this occasion provides them with an incentive to eagerly anticipate their crowning as the “King and Queen of the Barracks/Dormitories.

These event also featured the annual Christmas Jingle Contest, showcasing the musical talents of the Cadet Corps. The dazzling display serves as a beacon of hope and unity, resonating with the spirit of peace, joy, and goodwill that characterizes the holiday season.

PGEN BENJAMIN C ACORDA JR. underscored the significance of this tradition, expressing, “The lighting of the Giant Star is not merely a visual spectacle; it symbolizes our shared values, commitment to service, and the camaraderie that defines the PNPA community. As we join together to celebrate this joyous occasion, let us reflect on the spirit of Christmas and carry it with us in our daily endeavors.”

The event brought together cadets, personnel, and distinguished guests, creating a festive atmosphere brimming with joy and camaraderie. PGEN BENJAMIN C ACORDA JR. praised the PNPA for upholding this time-honored tradition and encouraged everyone to embrace the true essence of the season.

The PNPA extends warm wishes to all, hoping that the brilliance of the Giant Star continues to inspire unity, peace, and goodwill not only within the academy but also across the entire nation.
