I once envisioned one windy afternoon of my life just sitting peacefully in the view of my house’s veranda while sipping my daily dose of caffeine. I also wanted to breathe good and fresh air that is as clean as my morals. Simple as it is, I believe how powerful it is to stick and adhere to the intangibles in this short life. Today, I am reminded of this pure desire through Hon. Bonifacio L Bosita, the Guest of Honor during the Flag Raising Ceremony last February 6, 2023.

As a cadet in this prestigious academy, I am fully aware of the opportunities that will be soon bestowed upon me when I finish my degree. Soon enough, I will also serve the public as a public servant. There will be temptations along the way given the demands of opportunities, and it is in fact undeniable that some servants in the same profession are already stained. Some had a strong desire for power; some needed the money to survive. It is for me to decide whether or not I decide to tarnish my diligent labor. From here, I appreciate the Honorable’s remarks when he emphasized how important it is to not be a product of your own circumstances. Life may become personally taxing in various ways, particularly financially, but I should not compromise the essence of accountability or transparency because doing so could drive to lasting consequences.

Now that I am dedicating myself to the path that is less taken by the many, I already have faced countless strenuous circumstances. I even went through bleak situations that made me realize that life in the profession that I chose is definitely not easy. But because of these hurdles, I have grown to love the beauty of service even more, and it is at this point that I genuinely realize that I will never compromise the effort and commitment I have put into serving the public for the sake of money, status, or power.

Through the words of Honorable Bonifacio L Bosita. I came to the realization that I am lucky to have this pristine heart that seeks peace and justice through service. I can speak for myself when I say that things like leadership, compassion, and dedication have much more value than the tangibles. I hope that as I move forward to the next stages of my cadetship, I will always bring the integrity molded by the good leaders that I look up to just like the Guest Speaker, Honorable Bosita. I will forever uphold the moral principle that if I lose my honor, I will also lose myself.
