Asan, South Korea–In an impressive show of academic excellence and global collaboration, the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) achieved a notable second-place victory at the 2023 International Undergraduate Conference on Policing (IUCP), hosted at the Korean National Police University. This prestigious event convened the brightest minds from law enforcement institutions across Southeast Asia to deliberate on pressing policing issues.

The PNPA’s crowning achievement came in the form of a well-deserved second-place award, reaffirming its prominent status in the region. The PNPA Research Team presented their groundbreaking work titled “Human Trafficking: A Study in the Context of Survivors and Police Officers Across Southeast Asia,” led by P/CDT Mark Rey Andoyo and J/CDT Jeric Santos. Their findings, based on meticulous analysis and fieldwork, provided fresh insights into the experiences of survivors and the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies combatting this heinous crime.

The top spot at IUCP 2023 was secured by the Indonesian Police Academy, showcasing their exceptional research on a critical policing issue. Sharing the third-place honors were the People’s Police Academy of Vietnam and the Royal Thai Police Cadet Academy, highlighting outstanding contributions from various countries in the region.

Beyond the PNPA’s remarkable performance, they earned Participation Awards for P/CDT Jesie Ann Selvio and P/CDT Jewel Benjamin Santa Monica. These awards symbolize the PNPA’s steadfast commitment to knowledge exchange and collaborative learning.

IUCP 2023 served as a gathering of the region’s brightest young minds, offering innovative solutions and insights into the evolving policing landscape. It also acted as a platform for fostering camaraderie and cooperation among Southeast Asian nations, working towards a safer and more secure future for the region.

Once again, the Philippines, represented by the Philippine National Police Academy, demonstrated its dedication to advancing policing while nurturing international bonds crucial in the fight against crime and injustice.
